Choose a portable power station by checking two separate budgets: the power needed at the same time and the energy required over the planned period. Then verify the outputs, recharge arrangement and practical placement for your equipment.
Correction — October 22, 2026: Earlier versions included unsupported first-hand testing or experience claims. Those claims have been removed. This guide does not report measurements made by Wild Smart Gear.
Write a load list
Record exact equipment models, supported connections and planned hours. Constant loads can be estimated as W × hours; cycling refrigerators need representative measured energy. CPAP requires manufacturer-supported power and an appropriate treatment-continuity plan.
Check output compatibility
Read AC continuous and startup requirements, DC voltage/current, connector polarity and USB-C PD profiles. A large capacity does not establish a compatible output. Marketing boost modes may not be suitable for every appliance.
Calculate energy and a justified reserve
Use delivered energy if measured under relevant conditions. Otherwise show your nominal-capacity assumptions. A hypothetical 250Wh daily demand for two days needs 500Wh at the load before reserve; it is not a recommendation for an unknown product.
Compare recharge and portability
Check supported mains, vehicle and solar inputs against the time and conditions available. Record actual dimensions, weight and temperature/ventilation limits. Do not assume a station fits every vehicle or can be left in a hot car.
Evaluate the evidence
Separate manufacturer claims, independent tests and estimates. Check test conditions, warranties, current seller price and return terms. This site does not award winners from tests that never took place.
